Plot (no spoilers)

Woo Young-woo graduated from law school at the top of her class. She has a photographic memory, a passion for whales she has had all her life and a very personal way of looking at the world. But she is an autistic woman, and that makes finding a job much harder for her than for her classmates.

Her chance comes at Hanbada, one of Seoul's big law firms. She is greeted with doubts there: several colleagues don't know what to expect from her. Her mentor will be Jung Myung-seok, a senior attorney at the firm. Joining with her is Choi Su-yeon, a law school classmate and a rookie like her. And working at the firm is Lee Jun-ho, a kind, patient employee who starts to grow closer to Young-woo.

Each episode combines a court case with a step in the heroine's personal growth. Her memory and her unexpected way of seeing problems let her crack tricky cases, while she discovers friendship and her first romance. At home her father, Woo Gwang-ho, who raised her alone and runs a gimbap restaurant, is waiting for her, and outside, her best friend Dong Geu-ra-mi, as eccentric as she is loyal.

Characters and their Saju

壬

Woo Young-woo 우영우

Park Eun-bin · Yang Water · The Ocean

Young-woo is an autistic rookie attorney with a photographic memory and a lifelong love of whales. She arrives at Hanbada with a brilliant record and a lot of doubtful looks. Her way of thinking, different and precise, is exactly what makes her unique in the courtroom.

If Young-woo had a Saju card, it would be Yang Water · The Ocean, like the whales she loves: deep, vast and full of currents few can see from the surface. Her mind travels far and comes back with answers nobody expected.

己

Lee Jun-ho 이준호

Kang Tae-oh · Yin Earth · The Garden

Jun-ho works at Hanbada and is one of the kindest people there. He has a natural patience and a warmth that puts others at ease. From the start he treats Young-woo with respect and, little by little, grows closer to her.

If Jun-ho had a Saju card, it would be Yin Earth · The Garden: soft, welcoming and patient with whatever grows at its own pace. He rushes no one; he prepares the soil and waits, knowing the best flowers can't be forced.

戊

Jung Myung-seok 정명석

Kang Ki-young · Yang Earth · The Mountain

Myung-seok is a senior attorney at Hanbada and the person in charge of guiding Young-woo through her first cases. As a mentor, his role is to show her how a big firm works from the inside. A key question rests in his hands: whether he'll be able to see the talent behind a different way of thinking.

If Myung-seok had a Saju card, it would be Yang Earth · The Mountain: stable, with experience built up in layers and a high vantage point. A mountain doesn't run after anyone, but from the top it teaches you to see the whole road.

甲

Woo Gwang-ho 우광호

Jeon Bae-soo · Yang Wood · The Great Tree

Gwang-ho is Young-woo's father, who raised her alone and devoted his whole life to her. He runs a gimbap restaurant, where each day is measured in rolls and in care. His love for his daughter is protective and constant, and his home is her refuge outside the firm.

If Gwang-ho had a Saju card, it would be Yang Wood · The Great Tree: a firm trunk, open branches and years of shade given away without asking for anything. His daughter grew up under that canopy, and even if she flies far today, she knows where her tree is.

庚

Choi Su-yeon 최수연

Ha Yoon-kyung · Yang Metal · The Sword

Su-yeon was Young-woo's classmate at law school and now starts alongside her as a rookie at Hanbada. The two arrive at the same starting line, with the same eagerness to show what they're worth. That closeness, as colleagues and former classmates, gives their bond a special flavor.

If Su-yeon had a Saju card, it would be Yang Metal · The Sword: straight, direct and with a sense of justice that cuts clean. She can seem tough, but a good sword also protects whoever walks beside it.

丙

Dong Geu-ra-mi 동그라미

Joo Hyun-young · Yang Fire · The Sun

Geu-ra-mi has been Young-woo's best friend since school. Eccentric and fiercely loyal, she'll do anything to defend her. With her, Young-woo can be completely herself, with no need to explain. Her energy contrasts with the seriousness of the courtroom.

If Geu-ra-mi had a Saju card, it would be Yang Fire · The Sun: impossible to ignore, warm and a bit over the top, like a summer noon. Wherever she is, there's laughter, and her light always points toward her best friend.
